Now that Christmas is over, it’s time to start thinking about that New Year party. Most places will require a ticket to get in on New Year’s Eve, and so that will have been planned weeks in advance. But most of us are very guilty of leaving things as important as the party outfit right to the last minute. But by meeting a few basic criteria, you’ll be able to create an outfit worthy of the most spectacular New Years party ever.
1. Glitz
New Years is always about a bit of glitz. The fireworks, decorations, streamers, fizzing champagne all glitters with its own intensity that is always in abundance over New Years. So why not match? Team black trousers with a gold top. Or ground a silver sequin dress with black thigh-high heels and matching clutch. Introduce some 20s flair with a beaded dress and matching bag. New Year and Christmas are the only times of the year that you can safely assume that glamour will never have too high a bar to meet. Adding some glitz to your outfit won’t just be a celebration going into the new year, but will also pay homage to the mad amounts of glitter that has been used throughout festivals this year.
2. Highlight
And yes, we mean your face. But other things too. Let’s start with makeup – contouring has become the new norm over the past year. With advocates like the Kardashians and Beyonce splashing their perfectly contoured faces across every social media platform. And I’m not complaining; they look fantastic. So why not emulate those beauties this New Year? Grab a contour palette and highlight those cheek bone. Add a touch of glitter to really make them pop. Now, the rest of your body; you need to highlight your best features. Dress for your body shape and accentuate your best bits – give yourself a confidence boost, or even be a bit more daring – heading into 2018.
3. Accessorize
We mentioned having a grounding clutch to a fabulous outfit – but you could also consider a show-stopping bag to accent a block-colour ensemble. Everyone loves a little black dress, and there’s nothing wrong with a little black on black when it comes to boots and dress. So how about lifting that outfit with a statement clutch, a gold name necklace, or even just bright lips and nails. Purple and red are great to add a shock of color to a dark outfit.
4. Heels
Like your ambitions for the New Year, aim high. Stilettos might not be the best choice in icy weather, but a good black heel or chunky sole is perfect. Unless you know, you won’t be doing much walking, maybe leave the Boutons at home and save those red soles. Thigh-high boots have lasted the year and are still a big love among many, and they are great for keeping your legs toasty warm in this winter weather. Team them with a mini skirt, or even wide leg trousers. You can even add a touch of glitz here with a glitter heel
