I waited almost 10 years between children so being pregnant with my second child feels like a whole new venture. 10 years ago maternity pictures weren’t really a thing and as the years passed I always wished I had one. I’ve tried to take maternity photos of family and friends and what I’ve learned is if you wait too long into the pregnancy it leads to an unsuccessful shoot. Mainly because we feel too big and uncomfortable and that translates into the photo.
I didn’t want to wait pass my 5th month to get a silhouette shot. I also knew I didn’t want a photographer, I wanted to be in my element at home with my family in all my comfortableness.
Here are my tips for executing a silhouette maternity photo shoot:
- Don’t wait until you’re too big and uncomfortable to take these (I was about 22 weeks in this picture)
- Go for natural lighting and pose near a window
- If you’re posing by a window wait until early evening, when the sun is setting but there’s still light coming through (It was around 5PM when I took these)
- Have your partner take these so you are in your most comfortable, natural state.
- Go bare! Just undies, no jewelry, nothing extra
- Be patient, let your partner play around with the angle until the lighting is perfect
- Once you have the perfect shot, turn it black and white
