As we age, our skincare needs to evolve, requiring a more targeted and comprehensive approach to maintaining radiant eyes and hydrated skin. I’m over 40 and I didn’t start taking my skincare routine seriously until I turned 35 and I’m so glad I did. I have been stopped in the streets to be asked about my skin. It’s become essential for me to embrace a beauty routine that not only addresses signs of aging but also promotes overall skin health. In this blog post, I’m sharing my beauty regimen including all the products that keep my eyes sparkling and my skin glowing. You can also check out my TikTok for my skin routine in real life.
Gentle Cleansing
Start your routine with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities without stripping your skin of essential oils. Look for a sulfate-free formula to maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Cleansing your face and eyes with care sets the foundation for the subsequent steps. I clean my face every am and pm here is my favorite brand for cleansing and prepping, Ever Skincare — I use these 3 products together, it’s like a mini-facial at home!
Nourishing Eye Cream
The delicate skin around the eyes tends to show signs of aging more prominently. Invest in a hydrating and nourishing eye cream containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamins. These help reduce fine lines, puffiness, and dark circles, giving your eyes a refreshed appearance. I have used a ton of different ones, but so far this Drunk Elephant one is my favorite. I’ve also included one above in the Ever Skincare trio.
Hydration Boost with Serums
Incorporate a hydrating serum into your routine to replenish moisture and promote skin elasticity. Serums containing antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, can protect your skin from environmental damage. Apply the serum evenly, focusing on areas prone to dryness.
Moisturize Effectively
Choose a rich, yet non-greasy moisturizer to lock in hydration. Opt for products with ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, and peptides. These elements help maintain skin suppleness, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is an amazing moisturizer, it’s pricey but worth it.
Sunscreen Is Non-Negotiable
Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Sun damage is a significant contributor to premature aging, and diligent sun protection is crucial for maintaining healthy, radiant skin. I use this product as SPF and as a primer and it’s my favorite product ever, it leaves a beautiful dewy glow, SuperGoop! Glow Screen.
Hydrating Masks and Treatments
Your beauty routine over 40 should include hydrating masks and treatments at least once a week. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and chamomile can provide an extra boost of hydration and soothe the skin. The mask I linked below is effective and inexpensive, I often buy inexpensive masks at TJ Maxx or Marshalls but this Red Wine mask is the best one I’ve tried. Another great way to boost your skin’s hydration is with a hydro-facial. I go to Hello Hydration in Paramus, NJ, and have been very happy with the results. It’s recommended to have a facial once a month which can be unrealistic for most I think 4 times a year is sufficient.
A beauty routine for radiant eyes and hydrated skin after 40 involves a combination of gentle care and targeted products. Embrace these practices consistently, and you’ll not only look but also feel more confident and beautiful at every age.
